I never thought I would see the day. Finally! We have a class where “surfing the net” is not only encouraged but it is recommended. I doubt I will even pass the course if I don’t start becoming more web savvy. It’s 2008–we are well past the milennium and are now in what 1960’s sci-fi films would call….THE FUTURE (of course for us it’s the present). I always thought it would be different and that we would be living in space, driving around in flying saucers and dawning silver from head to toe. I think I watched one too many Jetson’s episodes in my time because the so called “future” is far from that. We are now dealing with the fact that our communication methods have drastically changed and technology continues to develop at warp speed.
As journalists we are now being taught how we can use the web to our advantage and I think that is a wonderful thing. I would like to use this class to market myself online as a journalist. I have always been an independent learner and I am excited to learn how the Internet can help further me in my career. As I begin to embark on my career journey, I would like to know that I have the option to be a self starter in this field. There is the possibility that I will have downtimes in my career without work, so I believe it is important to keep busy and attempt other options in the meantime.
I am excited to try something other than the traditional methods of journalism and this class seems far from traditional. I must say my eccentric old self is tres excited for what is to come. At that I would like to say welcome to my blog!
Ps- Am I the only one who thought we’d be living like the Jetsons by now? There’s still time! Maybe by 2020??
Hi Lauren!
Good first post! Make sure to check your spelling – ‘dawning’ should be ‘donning’..
Great conversational tone, nice lively writing style!
Look forward to your next post!
